Creekside Middle School Services
Students don’t always learn at the same pace, and it isn’t uncommon for a student to fall behind or struggle at some point in their academic career. Creekside Middle School cares about the well-being of every student and provides access to several services—including tutoring, mentoring, and counseling services—to help each student achieve to his or her highest potential.
We encourage parents and students to voice their concerns and needs so we can work together to find a solution that works for everyone. Please contact your student's teachers when you have questions or concerns.
There are times when a Student Study Team needs to meet. Such a meeting is scheduled by the counselor when it is apparent that the student is struggling in multiple classes. At the meeting, where parents, counselors, and other support staff come together to discuss the issues, an intervention plan is created. Sometimes the result is a referral to assessment for special education services. Other times a 504 plan may be written.
Homework Lunch is one of the interventions available. If a student is not turning in assignments, a teacher may refer the student to homework lunch. In this case a packet of work is sent home with the student on Friday. Parents are notified that the packet is coming home with a "homework alert" phone call from the counselor. If the student does not turn in the overdue work on Monday morning, he is assigned to "homework lunch." He will be required to spend his lunch period doing the assignments under the supervision of a teacher. He will, of course, be able to eat lunch while doing the work. Not all teachers use this intervention; some may ask the student to attend a "workshop" after school or to work with the teacher during lunch.
