The staff of Creekside Middle School welcomes students and their families as we begin the 2009-2010 school year. We hope you will find this website useful to our. Each teacher has a web page, and we encourage you to visit those web pages to learn more about our staff. Teachers will take advantage of the web pages to inform you of assignments and to provide resources related to their instructional programs.

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you. This is my fourth year as Creekside's principal. Prior to that I have been a principal in the Reed Union School District (both at a K-2 and 6-8 school), the Novato Unified School District (K-5), and in the Arena Union School District (K-8). Before becoming a principal I was a middle school teacher for 18 years in the village of Mendocino. I received my MA in Educational Administration and my administrative credential from Sonoma State University and my BA and teaching credential from Fresno State Unversity. I am a mother of two grown children, one of whom teaches high school and one who is in the credential program at UCSC.

As Creekside's principal, I bring to the campus a set of philosophical priorities. Several years ago I had the opportunity to hear Willard Daggett speak and I have embraced what he called the new "3 Rs" for education in the 21st century, "rigor, relevance, and relationships." It is critical that we hold high academic standards and provide equitable opportunities for students to access those standards. Support systems need to be in place for those students who struggle, no matter what the reason. We must hold true to the belief that all students can learn and provide them the opportunity to do so. The second "R," relevance, is particularly important for middle school students. In order to get their attention and inspire them to become engaged, the instruction must be relevant to their daily lives. No matter what the content area, we must help students see the connection to themselves, making the learning relevant. Finally, and most importantly, it is about relationships. Having a positive relationship with the adults on campus encourages students to demonstrate good citizenship and to put forth their best efforts academically. Each student must feel that their are adults on campus who care about him/her, who will go the extra mile to support them as students and as individuals.
